Proposal for an outdoor sculpture based on an open book.
Concept:
To provide a space for people to sit and reflect. The leaves of the book provide a framework for a central seat where viewers can sit ‘within the book’. I am interested in creating works which interact with nature. The impact of rain on both the ‘leaves’ of this work and the raised text would provide mini waterfalls.
Choice of material:
The maquette is made of aluminium which is soft enough for the text to be pressed out using metal lettering - the finished work has been conceived to be made in steel, as aluminium isn’t very vandal-proof, however this could change.
Choice of text:
Ideally this book sculpture project would involve the creative input of the community where it is based. The public would decide the content of the pages, whether it be original poetry or another form of narrative.
