I know you from somewhere is an installation designed for the entrance hall of the Chelsea building facing Millbank. The work consists of many strands of white dress-lining fabric hanging from beneath the footbridge that passes over the space between the canteen, student bar and the two main entrances. Because these entrances are also major fire exits, the piece would be deemed too dangerous to be realized in accordance health and safety standards.
The work aims to create the illusion of a downpour of water or some other liquid, while at the same time drawing the eye upwards to highlight the sublime in an everyday setting. I envisage that the interaction with the installation may be a frustrating or an enjoyable one, inconvenient or simply beautiful, depending on the participant's individual encounter. Either way, the experience would surely disrupt normative perceptions of the space and encourage a fresh evaluation of this intersection at the heart of Chelsea's architecture.
