“I will not make any more self-reflective art.” (After John Baldessari’s “I will not make any more boring art.” 1971)
- Organize your materials. You will need two or three pencils, pens, or markers, several meters of clear and relatively clean wall space (preferably in your studio), a video camera, tripod, and a fresh tape or empty memory card.
- Mount the video camera on the tripod. Position the camera so the entire wall space is visible in the field of view. Start recording.
- Working from left to right and top to bottom, write the sentence, 'I will not make any more self-reflective art' over and over again on the wall. Overlap the lines if space is limited.
- Meditate on the sentence while reproducing it.
- Stop writing when the videotape or memory card is full. Watch the video.
