We meet on Tuesdays 4.45 – 6 pm in the Card Room, Chelsea. ( please note earlier time from Jan 2010)

The group is open to all CCW postgraduate students and Chelsea BAs. You can come to as many or as few sessions as you like – they are relatively free-standing. If you are interested in attending just turn up or contact one of the co-ordinators. The group is run by Chelsea Research Fellows Isobel Bowditch and Mary Anne Francis with contributions from others…

1. 19 and 26 Jan: ‘Subject – Object’ introduced by Marsha Bradfield
2. 2 and 9 Feb: ‘Writing dialogue and communicology’ introduced by Scott Schwager
3. 16 and 23 Feb: ‘Authorship: I, you, me, they’ introduced by Caroline Rabourdin
4. 2 and 9 March: ‘The choice between writing and making’ introduced by Barbara Zanditon

1.Tuesday 3 and 10 November: Site/context/place specific writing
2. Tuesday 17 and 24 November: Translation
3. Tuesday 1 and 15 Dec: ’specialised professional language’ v ‘natural language’. This is particularly pertinant to art school environment /art research where we often have to deal with highly specialised terminology in art/critical theory and philosophy.

Criteria of Beauty美の標準

- and to create original art pieces that are inspired by Yanagi’s 12 Criteria of beauty. These twelve statements were coined by the well known Japanese art theoretician, Sōetsu Yanagi, in the early twentieth century, and we are curious to see how, and if, their relevance has changed or mutated over the past hundred years.(please,see at the poster attached). We hope that these 12 statements will inspire the artists to look at them critically and create an art piece that reflects or contemplates the meaning of the statements.

入賞作品は、西ロンドン・東ロンドンのアートギャラリーにて2008年12月に展示いたします。
また、優秀作品には豪華賞品、日本での展示会を企画しています。

I’ve restructured the top bar a little as it was getting crowded.

The google calendar now appears under Events/Calendar. The pages for Biblio and Text/Object are now subpages of this.

I have also added a page for this year’s research degree student exhibition, Talking with Ourselves and for last year’s research degree student exhibition/conference Future Reflections.

The latter is not to be confused with the link to the Future Reflections Website which remains in the top bar.

I’ve also added a Texts section to archive essays and so on that are uploaded to the site.

Hope that all makes sense!

p>The ethos of the Student Seminar series is still evolving… as you see there are now far more staff/student events and a more diverse range of activities over different days. It is also hoped that there will be more student lead activity. I’ll post a more detailed explanation of this change in focus soon.
